Along the ancient Via Francigena from Palermo to Agrigento, by bike
A route that crosses Sicily from coast to coast, you will cycle mostly on secondary roads, ancient trails and trails within natural reserves. Our guide will accompany you and will show you the unknown part of Sicily and its colours and flavours, so different form the usual ones.
Travel comfortably, free from luggage, which you will always find in your room, thanks to our luggage delivery service, and do not worry in case you get tired or your bike has some technical problem, there will be always a support minivan at your disposal.

individual arrival in Palermo in the morning / 12 km
Individual arrival in Palermo (airport transfer available on request). Meeting with a guide for a briefing and delivery of bicycles. The day is dedicated to a visit of Palermo, its historical center and the Norman Arabian cathedral. Free time for a lunch. In the afternoon transfer to Monreale, visit of the town and the Dome cathedral. Return to Palermo, dinner and overnight at the hotel.
Palermo - Corleone / 50 km
After the breakfast we will depart to reach the starting point of Via Francigena. We will pedal uphill to Santa Cristina Gela and then to Tagliavia Sanctuary – an intersection of several country roads coming from Marineo, Piana degli Albanesi and Corleone. Stop for e rest and for a visit of the Sanctuary nad continuation to Corleone, a city once sadly famous for organized crime, but now ready for a renew. Free time for a lunch and transfer by minibus to the hotel or B&B. Free time for a rest, dinner and overnight.
Corleone - Prizzi / 45 km
Today we will leave Corleone and we will go to Prizzi which was formerly a Sicilian stronghold known as Hippana, short stop at this medieval town and continuation to Castronovo di Sicilia. We will cycle within Nature Reserve Monte Carcaci and we will visit an ancient rural village Borgo Riena abandoned since 1950.
Free time for a lunch and transfer by minibus to the hotel or B&B. Free time for a rest, dinner and overnight.
Prizzi - Acquaviva Platani - Sutera / 40 km
After the breakfast we will cycle downhill to Castronovo di Sicilia and then we’ll continue to reach San Giovanni Gemini. We will cross the Platani River and we will cycle along the “Cheese Road”, so called for the wealth of farms and dairies in the area. Then we will continue to Acquaviva Platani and stop for a lunch here. From here we will take a panoramic route with breathtaking views of the Sicilian hinterland, which will lead us to the characteristic village of Sutera, perched on the slopes of Mount San Paolino where a Byzantine monastery stands. Visit of Sutera village, dinner at the restaurant and overnight in B&B.
Sutera - Recalmuto - Grotte / 35 km
After the breakfast departure in the direction of sulfur territory, we will cross some small villages and we will arrive at Recalmuto, a village of a famous Sicilian writer Leonardo Sciascia. Free time for visiting the village and continuation to Grotte. The town owes its name to the many sparrows and cavities in the limestone mountains of the territory, free time for visiting the town and for a lunch.
Dinner and overnight.
Grotte - Mount Cumatino - Agrigento / 35 km
Departure after the breakfast, we will cycle on ancient roads and we will cross the mining park on Mount Cumatino. You will see the remains of industrial archeology linked to the culture of Sulfur, yellow gold that made some Sicilian families rich in 1800 when our region was the world leader in the production and export of this mineral. Free time for a lunch and continue to Aragona, short stop for individual visits. The last stop today is Agrigento where we will stop for a dinner and overnight.
