Palermo-Santa Cristina Gela
Arrival in the airport of Palermo and private transfer to Santa Cristina Gela, in the heart of Sicily for overnight.
Santa Cristina Gela-Corleone
The path leaves the village of Santa Cristina Gela and brings you through the valley to reach “GIUHAI” mountain toward “Maria S.S. del Rosario di Tagliavia sanctuary” that deserves a visit. The last miles will take you to Corleone.
Today the walk begins in the one hundred churches town, you will have a chance to visit the archaeological museum that keeps the “MILIARIUS” of consular roman way. You will walk towards Prizzi and you will reach the remains of S. Maria della Scala church, then the artificial lake and finally the last steep climb takes you to Prizzi downtown.
Prizzi – Castronovo di Sicilia
Castronovo di Sicilia is the centre of your walk. Leave the main square of Prizzi behind you and walk towards ”Monte Carcaci” Natural Reserve, you will reach an ancient way used by old troops in XVIII century to connect this area and you will see also an abandoned agricultural village of the same period. Today’s destination is Castronovo di Sicilia.
Castronovo di Sicilia – San Giovanni Gemini
In the heart of this ancient path you will reach the “Capelvenere Necropolis”, then you will cross the Platani River and you will discover the San Pietro Farmhouse that stands on an old islamic settlement. Now you climb up next to the tributary of Platani river, Saracena creek, to Cammarata and its castle. Last stop before the final point of this stage is San Giovanni Gemini.
San Giovanni Gemini – Sutera
Today you cross the hamlet of Acquaviva Platani, excellent for a break and useful to refill the water. The last miles bring you to Sutera village that develops around the mountain of San Paolino and its imposing fortress. Do not miss a visit of this village with its narrow streets, courtyards and steep staircases.
Sutera – Racalmuto
From Sutera the path goes along the old busy road of hikers and crosses some hospitable villages for a relaxing break. Last but not least stage goes through “Zellante” forest which will bring you to Racalmuto, the town of Sciascia .
Racalmuto - Joppolo Giancaxio
Few miles divides Grotte from Racalmuto, Grotte is an agricultural country which inspires stories that since 1500 were written in the historical sicilian books, such as the “La Baronessa Di Carini”. Not far from the Cominiti village there is the astronomical observatory. Another stop will be in Aragona, here you can refill your water bottles before visiting the baroque churches. Then you will continue to the final point of this stage Joppolo Giancaxio and its castle.
Joppolo Giancaxio – Agrigento
The final stage of this path crosses the river Akragas/San Leone and by the suburban park you will reach the Dome of Agrigento. Today you will have a possibility to choose between the visit of the famous Temple Valley (Valle Dei Templi) or to enjoy the Pirandello home town and its beautiful beaches.
